LA Mayor Issues Press Release for Resilient by Design Initative
Endorses USRC Rating System in Call for Citywide Program
On November 30 2015 LA Mayor Garcetti stated "In my Resilience by Design Plan, I called for a seismic safety rating system that would help our city not only survive a large earthquake, but better protect our residents and their property, USRC's system answers that call. This measure will make all Angelenos safer by establishing a clear, transparent, and credible assessment of individual buildings' seismic readiness."
On December 8, 2014, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti issued a press release announcing an earthquake resilience plan for the City of Los Angeles. This ambitious program, Resilience by Design, will "address the city's greatest earthquake vulnerabilities, including building retrofitting and steps to secure our water supply and communications infrastructure," according to the press release. The Resilience by Design report, which calls for the "adoption and implementation of a voluntary rating system, utilizing the system designed by the United States Resiliency Council" can be accessed at http://www.lamayor.org/earthquake.
